About Jay (freestyle)
Jay Freestyle is a world-renowned tattoo artist and painter, currently based in Canada. Born and raised in South Africa within a traditional Chinese household, Jay broke away from cultural norms to pursue a deep-rooted passion for creative expression — a path that has since taken him across the globe.
Entirely self-taught, Jay is known for his bold, freehand approach to tattooing. Every piece is created in the moment, without stencils, guided purely by instinct, energy, and trust. His large-scale works blend styles such as watercolor, geometric design, realism, abstraction, and pointillism — resulting in emotionally resonant, museum-worthy compositions.
With over 90 international tattoo awards, Jay has earned global recognition for his craft. He is also one of the very few tattoo artists to be awarded by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome (MACRO) — a rare honor that bridges the world of tattooing and fine art. In addition to tattooing, Jay has shared his knowledge through seminars and masterclasses taught worldwide, inspiring the next generation of visionary artists.
